Art?

I just found an Australian performance artist named Stelios Arcadious, who is pushing the boundaries of his art. He has had a human ear grown from cells surgically implanted on his forearm. While this seems strange enough his future plans our weirder. He eventually want to have microphones installed so he can share what his arm hears with the world. Strange...

Right hand Man

Two brothers in Arizona that had gotten tired with the limits of body modification have taken things to a new level. One brother had his arm surgically removed and attached to his brothers chest. The other brother got a finger in return to make his twice as long. (doesn't sound like a very fair trade off...) Anything in the name of art i guess..

Sheep.

Japanese scientist have made a new breakthrough in the art of creating organs for transplant. Japan has many laws that make organ donation hard, and has led to some of the lowest donor numbers out of any civilized nation. Using stem cells, Japanese researchers have grown an extra pancreas in a sheep that will later be transplanted to an ape. Though still in the early stages, scientist plan to be create organ farms in the next decade to help out with the burgeoning organ donation problem... I think its very cool, and hope scientist here can get on that too.

Obama's Tax Plans

Obama declared his plans to close tax loopholes and crack down on evaders Monday. It is currently a lower tax rate to start a business overseas than it is to here. Obama vowed to fix this and other loopholes in our taxes that have made it cheaper to shift jobs overseas. I think this sounds like a good idea...but we'll have to see how he runs with it.

Leave My Brain Alone!

Advertisers and lawyers have been buying into new brain mapping and reading systems that are undergoing many scientific breakthroughs. India has convicted several criminals based on evidence of brain mapping during special interrogations. The use of this technology for similar purposes along with advertising is growing in the United States. This is Scary...One day they secretly track all our brains!

Bizarre Consequences of the Flu

Egypt has recently ordered a killing of a large portion of their pig population in order to curb possible transmissions of the swine flu. Thousands of Egyptian pig farmers tried to protest this weekend but were stopped by the government. About 12 of the farmers were injured in a fight to save the livestock their lives depend on.

Obama's first Appointee

Supreme Court Justice David Souter is about to retire his post. This will give President Obama a chance to pick a new Justice, and further the reach of his political power. Many suspect him to pick a politically far left justice...but we'll see.

master of puppets

This song defines Metallica and contains powerful lyrics, full of powerful messages. This song isn’t necessarily specifically about drugs, although it refers to them. The "Master" of puppets is a reference to drugs. Throughout the song the "Master" controls you and your life. This is evident in lyrics like, "chop your breakfast on a mirror," (cocaine) and "The Master Of Puppets is pulling your strings, twisting your mind and smashing your dreams." Drugs is the Master while the drug user is the puppet. It’s about someone or something else, other than you, controlling your life. People take drugs, so drugs become the master over their pain and in the end the drugs become the master over the individual. “Come crawling faster“.…“obey your master“....all very real aspects of a drug addicts life.

short history of light

Newton argued that light acts like a stream of tiny particles moving in straight lines, and reflects off mirrors like a ball bouncing off a wall. But Thomas Young and the Frenchman Augustin Fresnel established another theory, that light is a wave: that light can bend around edges and spread out through two slits in a screen to cause an interference pattern. The wave theory of light became the classical description. Later, experiments showed that light, possessed properties of waves and properties of particles. Evidence can be shown, both experimental and theoretical, for light as a wave and light as a particle.

cosmic inflation

Until recently, it was assumed that what caused the Big Bang would remain forever unknown. But a wave of theoretical studies has placed the genesis scenario within reach. Inflation answers the classic question of the big bang cosmology: why does the universe appear flat, when one would expect it to be highly curved? Inflation also explains the origin of the large-scale structure of the cosmos. A breakthrough occurred in the early 1980’s when investigations of the interaction of the smallest subdivisions of matter, also known as quantum physics, began to have obvious applications in astronomy. Inflation was proposed in 1981 by Alan Guth. His inflation model is now of huge importance in what is known as the 'Big Bang'. Guth’s most current research is related to the connections between inflation and the string theory. George F. Smoot of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California and John C. Mather of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland were awarded The Nobel Prize for depicting the universe as it was 380,000 years after its birth in the Big Bang. What they did, precisely measured the faint light that revealed the seeds of today’s galaxies and super clusters, affirming the big-bang. Smoot and Mather won the 2006 Nobel physics prize for their role as chief architects of a NASA satellite observatory named COBE, for Cosmic Background Explorer. Launched in 1989, the spacecraft measured remnants of light that originated in the history of the universe, about 380,000 years after the big bang. New attempts to explain the early moments of creation to predict a universe that can evolve naturally into the one we see are being taken very seriously, without some of those loose ends associated with previous theories.

infj

After taking the Kisa test, I was not surprised to find out that my personality type is INFJ. My comfort zone is in my own head, and I have always been slightly introverted. I agree that I mostly make decisions based off of my intuition. I am a global thinker and am sensitive to global problems as well as difficulties of others. Lastly, I am a slightly expressed judging personality. I agree that I judge, but in an observant and watchful way (out of my own curiosity).

blood diamonds

Blood Diamonds (or “Conflict Diamonds”) are diamonds that are mined in parts of African counties controlled by rebel forces. Rebels sell the slave mined diamonds, and the profit is used for weapons to fund their military. These diamonds are obtained by the forced labor of civilians (many of which children). The diamonds are illegally put into the international diamond trade and sold. Arms merchants, smugglers, and corrupt corporate diamond traders buy these stones for cheep and sell them doubling their profit. The Rebels are pulling in huge sums of money by bribing, threatening, enslaving, torturing, and murdering (hence “blood diamonds”). They are fuelling their own peoples suffering for rocks and power. The UN has developed a certification procedure called the “Kimberly Process”. This requires nations to certify that diamond exports are produced through ethical and paid mining. The certification must prove that the diamonds are legitimate from mine to sale.

legalizing mariuana

There was a guy on colbert report last night saying all the same stuff about weed that I have been saying for years. He brought up good points, many of which colbert couldn't argue with. His basic argument: America should treat weed the way it treats alcohol. We spend millions of tax dollars every year finding and putting none violent drug offenders away for years( in some cases a longer sentence than child abusers). Most of these "criminals" are none violent and weren't hurting or involving anyone else. There people who just mind there own buisness and smoke an occational joint. 40% of america now supports legalizing weed, and I say 40% is a high (lol.. high) enough number for this to be considered. Once it is legalized, we should grow it in america and tax it. Most pot heads I know would happily pay a couple bucks in taxes when (at that point) tax dollars could be put towards more realistic things. Obama, Bush, and many presidents before have all tried mariuana yet don't support its legalization (only decriminalization). In my opinion, this would be a smart move for obama considering the age group that got him elected is the main weed smoking ages.
